This 3" compass manufactured by E.S. Ritchie in 1907 is in excellent condition, complete with its original mahogany box it was recently overhauled in our shop using the same tools and techniques that were used when it was originally manufactured. Special care was taken to preserve the original egg-painted interior as well as preserving all of the hand made components.
Research of the serial number indicates that it was sold to T.S.& J.D. Negus, a highly respected ship chandlery in new York on Augst 1, 1907. An image of the page from the original serial number book at E.S. Ritchie & Sons can be seen on the bottom of this page.
The box measures 6-3/4" X 6-3/4" X 4-1/2" high.
The dial is 3" in Diameter. This compass sold for $795.00 April 2010.
