This compass was recovered from the wreck of the "Caribe Sea" a 261 ft freighter sunk by a German U-Boat off of Cape Lookout, North Carolina. The compass came to us missing most of the internal parts. We restored it using parts from compasses of a similar era.
The serial number indicates that it was manufactured and sold to the Upson Walton Co. of Cleveland Ohio on July 7 1919.
