Antique Dry Card Telltale compassThe Telltale compass is designed to hang from overhead. Often used by the ships captain, it was typically hung over his bunk, so he could keep an eye on the ships heading while he was resting.
This compass came to us with a unique history. Made by instrument makers Jones and Gray of England around 1820, it was owned by a ships captain whose ship was comandeered by pirates. When he and his crew were removed from the ship the pirates allowed him to take this compass with him. He eventually made his way back home with his telltale compass. His family had cherished the compass for generations and sent it to our shop to be carefully restored.
